Wetang’ula forms 9-member team to plan funeral for Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho
By Mabonga Makhanu, March 29, 2026The Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, has set up a nine-member committee to oversee the burial arrangements of Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho, who passed away at Nairobi Hospital in the early hours of Sunday.
Kiaraho died at around 1:20 am on Sunday, March 29, 2026, while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital, following a prolonged illness. He had been in and out of the hospital in recent months, seeking medical attention both locally and abroad.

In an official communication issued by the Speaker, Wetang’ula appointed Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku to chair the funeral preparation committee, with Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau serving as his deputy. The two will work alongside seven other members to coordinate the arrangements, liaise with the family, and plan a befitting send-off.
“In this regard, I have appointed Members to the Funeral Preparation Committee to liaise with the family and coordinate a befitting send-off for the late Hon. Kiaraho. The team will be led by the Member for Kinangop, the Hon. Kwenya Thuku, MP assisted by the Member for Nyandarua, the Hon. Faith Gitau, CBS, MP and seven (7) other Hon. Members.”
Kiaraho’s tenure
Kiaraho was serving his third term as a member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency, having first been elected during the 2013 General Elections. In Parliament, he served as a member of the Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure as well as the Procedure and House Rules Committee, where he contributed to legislative work and oversight.

David Njuguna’s education
Born on October 2, 1963, Kiaraho attended Alliance High School before joining the University of Nairobi, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Architecture. Before venturing into politics, he built a career as an architect and served as a principal architect at Archgrid Systems, gaining experience in infrastructure and built environment projects.
According to the speaker, the formation of the committee marks the beginning of formal burial preparations, with more details expected to be announced by the parliament in the coming days.
Various leaders, led by National Assembly majority member Kimani Ichung’wah, have come out to mourn the MP, who was elected on the Jubilee ticket in 2022 and was doing his third term. Ichungwa has also sent a condolence message to the family and the people of the Ol Kalou constituency. Other MPs in the national assembly have followed suit, mourning him as a dedicated leader
