How and when did you discover your musical talent?

I realised I had a talent in music in 2007 when I went for a music competition that was about talent search in Uganda.

At that time, I had paid a visit to my cousin who lives there. Ever since that day, I developed a big interest in the art and I started attending and participating in more music competitions.

When I came back to Kenya later on, I joined forces with other artistes to strengthen our music talents.

What really inspired you into music?

My biggest inspiration arrived when I got chosen during one of my competitions, and the love for singing about the originality that comes from the culture that I hail from.

Did your family, especially your parents support your choice to pursue the art?

At first, they never liked the idea of me doing music, since most of my time I used to compose my music and attend those music academies, so, they thought it was a waste of time.

But they later had to accept and support me because they saw how passionate I was about music. They have since become a strong pillar to my career.

How and when did you go professional?                                                              After recording a number of audios, I decided it was time to do a good video that would make me famous like other artistes out there.

So, after saving up, I had enough money to do a good video. My first single was recorded in 2016 and it was called Yapapala.

How has the journey been thus far?

Honestly, the journey has been full of ups and downs. Since after realising Yapapala, the reception was not as appealing as I had expected.

I had put a lot of effort and invested a handsome amount of cash in marketing the song, but it was an expensive affair looking for promoters to help me really give it the exposure I desired.

Tell us a bit about your latest release Khwashinanga

Khwashinanga is a Luhya name meaning dancing. So, I decided to do this song since it’s all about traditional ways of dancing, fused with modern styles.

My main reason for doing this song was for entertainment purposes; to encourage everyone into dancing as a way of releasing pressures of life, fitness and as a form of passing certain messages.

Who do you look up to in the music industry?

Sincerely speaking, I don’t have any specific icon in music, but at least everyone who has achieved success in music is the kind that I look up to because they give me the spirit of never quitting. I won’t mention any names though.

What is King Kambo’s big dream?

My dream is to go international and become a role model to the up-coming generation of artistes.

I am also a professional interior designer; so, keep your eyes on me. I am surely the next big thing. I never give up because hardwork is my other name.

Your final word…

My advice to all the people is to put their trust in God. He does wonders and he’s doing it for me. Let’s all focus on achieving our goals and dreams.
