Weatherman issues 7-day forecast along Kenyan coast
The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority has projected generally calm and stable ocean conditions along the Kenyan Coast in its seven-day marine forecast covering April 12 to April 18, 2026.
According to the forecast released on Saturday, April 11, 2026, coastal waters and parts of the Western Indian Ocean are expected to experience south-easterly to south-westerly winds ranging between 2 and 18 knots.

“The Marine Forecast for the Kenya coastal waters and the Western Indian Ocean provides guidance on ocean conditions along the Kenya Coast to support safe and informed marine activities,” Kenya Met wrote on their WhatsApp channel.
Wave heights and winds
The weatherman noted that wave heights are projected to remain relatively low, between 0.2 and 1.4 metres, indicating slight to moderate sea conditions throughout the period.
“ Winds : Generally, South-Easterly to South-Westerly, about 2–18 knots (1–9 m/s). Wave heights : around 0.2 – 1.4 meters (o.6 – 4.2 ft). Sea state: Slight to moderate conditions throughout the forecast period,” Kenya Met stated.

The agency noted that the current weather will be mostly good for most marine activities, such as fishing and transportation.
However, it cautioned small boat operators to stay alert and follow safety rules even though the weather looked calm.
“Stable Ocean conditions expected- favourable for most marine activities, but caution is advised for small vessels. Mariners, fishermen, and coastal communities are encouraged to keep track of the latest forecasts and advisories when planning marine activities,” Kenya Met warned.
The meteorological authority further urged stakeholders to regularly monitor updates and advisories through its official communication channels to stay informed of any changes in weather patterns.
Weather in other regions
The Kenya Meteorological Department also warned of moderate to heavy rains in Western, Lake Victoria basin, Rift Valley, Central Kenya, and Coastal region for five days, from Friday, April 10, to Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
In its weekend weather advisory published on Friday, April 10, 2026, the weatherman said heavy rains would occur mainly in Western, Rift Valley, and around the Lake Victoria basin this weekend, with the downpour expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms.

Counties in these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
On the other hand, counties in Central Kenya, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi, were forecasted to experience moderate rains.
