Kenya Met issues weekend rain forecast for 5 regions
The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of moderate to heavy rains in Western, Lake Victoria basin, Rift Valley, Central Kenya and Coastal region for the next five days, from Friday this week to Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
In its weekend weather advisory published on Friday, April 10, 2026, the weatherman said heavy rains would occur mainly in Western, Rift Valley and around the Lake Victoria basin this weekend, with the downpour expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms.
Counties in these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.
According to Kenya Met, the rain in the aforementioned counties would begin mostly in the afternoon after sunny and cloudy intervals.

On the other hand, counties in Central Kenya, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi, were forecasted to experience moderate rains.
The Department has said these counties would receive light rains mostly in the morning and afternoon with occasional downpour on some nights for the next five days.
A similar weather pattern was predicted in the coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties, as well as the Tana Delta.
The advisory indicates that while most counties were projected to receive rain, the South-eastern lowland counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta would remain sunny and dry.

Marine forecast
Light to breezy Southern to South Western winds of 2.57 to 9.77 metres per second, with slight wave to moderate wave sea waters, are expected in Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi and Lamu during the morning hours.
In the afternoon, light to breezy Southern winds of 4.12 to 7.20 meters per second with slight to moderate wavy sea waters are expected.

Temperature advisory
The weather outlook shows that nighttime temperatures of up to 6°C are expected in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi counties.
Other counties that are expected to experience the cold nights are Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga and Bungoma.
At the same time, daytime temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
