Wamuchomba slams Murkomen over BBC child sex exposé

By , August 15, 2025

Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba has sharply criticised the Interior Ministry over its handling of a BBC Africa Eye exposé that revealed disturbing details of Kenya’s child sex trade.

Taking to her official X account on Friday, August 15, 2025, moments after a consultative meeting with women leaders from all 47 counties, Wamuchomba faulted Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen for dismissing the investigation as a “hoax” and a scheme to tarnish Kenya’s image internationally.

“The shocking child sex exposé’ by BBC Africa has elicited interest in the manner in which the duty bearers through the Cs interior have dismissed as HOAX and a scheme to tarnish Kenyas Image internationally,” Wamuchomba stated.

Kware murders

The lawmaker also raised concern over the unresolved case of 42 women whose bodies were recovered from Kware Dumpsite in Embakassi more than a year ago.

She faulted the ministry for failing to bring the killers to justice, noting that officials claim the key suspect escaped from police custody 12 months ago.

“Held a consultative meeting with women drawn from all 47 counties of Kenya to press for the rights of women and children. Of concern is the unresolved issue of 42 bodies of women recovered from Kware Dumpsite in Embakasi (Mukuru) 13 months ago with no concrete roadmap to arrest the killers and perpetrators,” she stated.

“Interestingly, the Cabinet Minister for the Interior has the audacity to explain how they were not able to apprehend the killers since the suspect escaped from police custody one year ago!”

Rights of women and children

Wamuchomba vowed to continue building a strong women’s movement to safeguard the rights of women and children while holding duty bearers accountable.

She thanked partners, including former Senator Gloria Orwoba’s Network for Sexual Health and Reproductive Rights in Kenya, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, FIDA-Kenya, the Law Society of Kenya, and several women-led organisations for their continued support.

“We shall continue to build a strong women’s movement in Kenya to safeguard our rights and hold duty bearers to account. Special thanks to the @GloriaOrwoba network for sexual health and reproductive rights in Kenya, the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions, FIDA-Kenya, KNHRC, LSK, Women Collective, Gamafrica, Creaw and the Mamacare Foundation. I remain that woman leader committed to women’s course in Kenya,” she stated.
