Wambugu hits back at Karua after her remarks on Uhuru

By , August 4, 2025

Former Nyeri Town MP Wambugu Ngunjiri has criticised Martha Karua over her recent claims, suggesting that President William Ruto is using former President Uhuru Kenyatta to secure political ground ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook account on Monday, August 4, 2025, Wambugu expressed his disapproval of Karua’s remarks, urging her and the broader political class to accord Uhuru Kenyatta the respect he deserves.

While acknowledging his personal respect for the former Azimio deputy presidential candidate, Wambugu questioned the logic behind the idea that a former head of state could be manipulated for political gain.

He pointed out that Uhuru served for a full decade as the president of Kenya, gaining both experience and strategic insight. In contrast, President Ruto has only completed three years in office.

According to Wambugu, the notion that Uhuru could be “used” by Ruto is both misleading and disrespectful.

He argued that, if anything, it would be Uhuru who holds the upper hand in terms of political experience and strategic thinking.

Uhuru’s dominance

He went further to describe the former president as being fully in control of his space, stating that “Uhuru ni Bazuu”, a slang phrase suggesting strength, dominance, or authority.

“I have a lot of respect for Hon. Martha Karua. But we really must respect Uhuru Kenyatta. Why would anyone assume Uhuru can be ‘used’ by Ruto? Uhuru did 10 years as president; Ruto has only done 3. If anyone has the capacity & know-how on how to use anyone else, it would be Uhuru. Uhuru ni Bazuu. He’s fully in control of his space.” He stated.

PLP boss Martha Karua had earlier slammed President William Ruto over attempting to create a perception that former President Uhuru Kenyatta and he are one thing.

Speaking to Kameme TV on Monday, August 4, 2025, the politician, while commenting about Uhuru’s latest appearance at State House, said that Ruto was using the moment to mislead Kenyans.

She criticised leaders who twist the image of a retired president for political gain.

Uhuru should be respected

“Uhuru should be given his respect like the former Head of State,” Karua said during the interview.

She explained that it is wrong to use the former president as a symbol in political wars.

“We in the opposition would not like to attach him like a shield in a war,” she added.

Karua said Uhuru deserves peace and privacy after serving the country.

“We haven’t lacked ways to talk to him, because when a person grows old, there is a respect he is given under his position as a retired president.”

She said dragging Uhuru into active politics sends the wrong message.
