Wamalwa remembers Enock Andanje as dedicated, distinguished teacher
Kenya’s political and education circles are mourning the sudden death of Enock Andanje, a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aspirant for the Malava Constituency by-election.
The former principal of Bungoma High School collapsed and died on Friday, August 15, 2025, during a Widows’ Empowerment Forum in Kakamega County. His passing has been described as a profound loss to both the teaching profession and the political arena.
DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa was among the first to pay tribute, describing Andanje as “a dedicated, distinguished teacher with remarkable and outstanding credentials.”

In his condolence message on X, Wamalwa wrote, “Saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Enock Andanje, a dedicated, distinguished teacher with remarkable and outstanding credentials. To his family, friends, and supporters – Poleni sana. My heart goes out to you in your time of sorrow, and may God comfort and strengthen you.” His sentiments reflected the high regard in which Andanje was held as an educator and a community leader.

Mudavadi leads tributes
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who was present at the forum, described the loss as deeply personal and politically significant. “I have received with deep sadness the news of the passing of Dr. Enock Andanje, one of our UDA aspirants in the upcoming Malava by-election,” he said. Mudavadi noted that Andanje had recently taken early retirement to offer “leadership and vision” to Malava, adding, “His sudden demise is not only a personal loss to his family but also a blow to our community and the democratic process he sought to serve.”
Andanje’s active participation in grassroots initiatives was evident, with his planned role at the forum underscoring his commitment to uplifting lives. His absence was described by Mudavadi as a significant setback to UDA’s outreach in Malava, a constituency witnessing heightened political activity ahead of the polls.
UDA pays tribute
UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar Hassan described Andanje as “a dedicated servant of the people, a voice for the vulnerable, and a true believer in empowerment and youth.” The party said his vision for Malava was rooted in unity, dignity, and opportunity for all.
The tragedy has renewed concerns about health risks in politics. A 2023 Kenya Medical Research Institute study reported a 15% rise in sudden cardiac events linked to campaign stress. As the nation awaits a medical report on the cause of death, tributes continue to pour in, affirming Andanje’s enduring impact in both education and public service.
