Wamalwa defends opposition unity as power-sharing speculation grows
DAP-K Party leader Eugene Wamalwa has dismissed claims of divisions within the opposition coalition, insisting that its leaders remain united and will eventually settle on a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
Speaking at a church service on Sunday, July 5, 2026, Wamalwa said the coalition currently has six leaders with presidential ambitions but maintained that they are committed to remaining together until they agree on one flag bearer.

“Ya kwamba vile mmetuona hapa pamoja… kufikia sasa tuko na wagombezi sita, six presidential candidates in a coalition, four of them are here. Wawili Riggy G na Martha hawako lakini wametuma salamu. Twataka tuwahakikishie, vile mmetuona pamoja, tutashikana hadi mwisho na tutatoa mgombezi mmoja,” he said.
Ignore rumours
He urged supporters to ignore reports suggesting the coalition was fractured, describing such claims as propaganda.

“Yale mnasikia sijui wapi hiyo ni propaganda, let your hearts not be troubled. We know what is at stake, and we will not let you down,” Wamalwa added.
Wamalwa called on the church to continue speaking out against injustice, arguing that constitutional freedoms, including the right to peaceful demonstrations and freedom of expression, must be protected.
“Haiwezekani kwa nchi ambayo tuna katiba inatupa ruhusa ya kufanya maandamano na uhuru wa fikira, uhuru wa usemi, na wewe unashikwa, unatekwa nyara, unateswa, unaumizwa sababu ya msimamo wako wa kisiasa na hiyo ni haki yako ya kikatiba,” he said.
Itumbi on cracking opposition
The clarification comes as President William Ruto’s Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi claims that cracks are already emerging within the United Alternative Government over power-sharing arrangements ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a statement on his X account on Sunday, July 5, 2026, Itumbi said negotiations within the opposition factions have exposed competing interests over the presidential ticket and the distribution of senior positions.
