Wamalwa unveils United Opposition Western Kenya tour itinerary
Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has unveiled the itinerary of the upcoming Linda Mwananchi rally in Western Kenya, which is set to commence on Friday, June 13, 2026.
Speaking during an interview with a local media station on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the outspoken former defence minister stated that the tour will begin in Luanda, Vihiga County, where the team intends to comb the county before proceeding to Kakamega County, where they will continue spreading the Wantam gospel before making inroads into Busia County, a region largely considered an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) stronghold.

“We will begin in Vihiga, then Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma county, Kiminini, and then the final rally in Kitale town.”
He further stated that the United Alternative Government entourage will then head to Bungoma County, where they intend to traverse the Ken Lusaka-led county, making stopovers in major trading centres before proceeding to Trans Nzoia County. There, they will be hosted by Governor George Natembeya, with a home-stretch rally planned for Kiminini and a final grand rally in Kitale Town.
Wamalwa also revealed that the rally had initially been scheduled to take place between May 29 and June 1 but was postponed following the death of the father of former Bungoma Governor Wafula Wangamati, who was buried on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in Khachonge, Kabuchai Constituency.
According to Wamalwa, the rallies are also informed by the itinerary of the Linda Mwananchi movement, with the two groups coordinating their activities. He cited the May 31 Linda Mwananchi rally in Machakos, noting that they had agreed that while the movement focused on the Lower Eastern region, the United Alternative Government team would focus on Western Kenya during the same period to avoid collisions.
He emphasised that the two formations have already begun working together in pursuit of their Wantam dream and expressed confidence that, in the near future, they would openly and wholeheartedly join forces.
Western kenya’s political atmosphere
The tour comes at a time when Western Kenya has increasingly become a political battleground between the broad-based government and the United Opposition, with both sides appearing to command significant support in the region.
However, a recent TIFA survey indicated that 75 per cent of residents in the Mulembe region are dissatisfied with the current administration and the direction they are taking.
The developments also come amid what appears to be a growing rivalry between Eugene Wamalwa and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya over the leadership of the region and control of the DAP-K party.
Alternative budget

On the eve of the rally, Wamalwa further disclosed that the United Latentive Government team would unveil what he termed an alternative budget to Kenyans, offering a different perspective from the one expected to be presented by Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi in the National Assembly.
