Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has said Meru residents have resolved to support Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidates in the 2027 General Election, declaring that President William Ruto should be sent home over what he termed failure to adequately serve the region.

Speaking in Molo, Nyaki, Imenti, Linturi said restoring Meru’s “lost glory” would require residents to elect leaders aligned with DCP.

In a statement shared on his X account on Monday, July 27, 2026, Linturi said the residents had agreed to support DCP candidates from the gubernatorial seat to the Member of County Assembly (MCA) level.

“We further resolved to support DCP candidates across all elective positions, from the gubernatorial seat down to the Member of County Assembly (MCA) level,” Linturi said.

Linturi declares ‘WANTAM’ slogan

As the National Organising Secretary of DCP, Linturi said he assured residents that the interests of Meru would be prioritised under the party’s leadership.

He said unity would be key in the region’s political push ahead of the 2027 polls.

“We urged the mwananchi to rally behind this cause, emphasising that unity remains our greatest strength,” he said.

Linturi said the residents had also agreed that Ruto should leave office, citing what he described as failure to adequately serve the people of Meru.

“In addition, we collectively agreed that President Ruto must be sent home, given his failure to adequately serve the people of Meru,” he said.

He added that the message gaining traction on the ground was “WANTAM.”

Linturi accuses Ruto of dividing Mt Kenya

Linturi’s latest remarks come days after he accused Ruto of using Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku to divide the Mt Kenya region into political blocs.

In a statement shared on X on Saturday, July 18, 2026, Linturi urged residents of Imenti not to fall into what he described as a strategy targeting the unity of the region.

“Let me be clear: the Mountain remains firmly united. The GEMA community has stood as one since independence, a legacy bequeathed to us by our founding fathers,” Linturi said.

Linturi also accused Ruku of being used by Ruto to divide the region, warning that the Cabinet Secretary could eventually be discarded politically.

“CS Ruku should take heed. He is being used as a tool by Ruto and will eventually be discarded, just as I, Justin Muturi and Rigathi were discarded before him,” he said.

Linturi eyes Meru governor seat

Linturi has also declared his intention to contest the Meru gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.

“I am fully prepared and ready to contest for the Governorship of Meru County. I assure the people of Meru that I will serve with dignity, integrity and unwavering commitment, working tirelessly to elevate our county among the leading counties in Kenya,” he said.

His political push comes as DCP allies intensify efforts to consolidate support in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
