Former United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) chair Mukhisa Kituyi has revealed that the United Opposition has formed a team led by former minister Kipruto arap Kirwa to lead the coalition in laying structures for coalition building.

While speaking during an interview on Herman Manyora’s podcast aired on Sunday, March 19, 2026, Mukhisa, who also doubles as the United Opposition spokesperson, continued by stating that each constituent party within the United Opposition has contributed two people to the select committee under the stewardship of Arap Kirwa, who also doubles as the opposition’s chairman.

Mukhisa Kituyi further stated that the team is also expected to come up with a basic ethical code of conduct that each member within the United Alternative Government must sign to remain in the team.

“On our side, we have a team headed by Kipruto Arap Kirwa, along with two members from constituent parties of the United Opposition, which is looking at the mechanics of coalition building and the basic ethical code of conduct that each and every member must sign to remain in the coalition,” he said.

Opposition-Linda Mwananchi merger

According to Mukhisa Kituyi, this framework will also provide grounds that will set the ultimatums which Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi team will follow when joining them to form a coalition with the United Opposition, which after the merger will become what he described as an integrated opposition.

Mukhisa further exuded confidence that should the Sifuna team join them, they will bring in new and refreshing ideas which, according to him, will see young people, particularly Gen Zs, become more interested in the opposition as a formidable force.

He noted that the Linda Mwananchi team carries the aspirations of young people who are frustrated with the current administration and want change after 2027.

The outspoken former minister further stated that even those still in support of William Ruto and chanting “tutam” are also being considered, adding that the opposition is laying the groundwork so that if the time comes for them to ditch the government and align with the opposition, there will be space to accommodate them.

On his recent meeting with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna at his upcountry home together with Bukusu elders, Mukhisa stated that it was meant to send a message to the country that both the United Opposition and the Linda Mwananchi team are united in their quest to realise their Wantam dream and will approach 2027 as a team.
