Four-time Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Ulinzi Stars have boosted their ranks with three recruits ahead of the second half of the football season.

The soldiers, currently 5th on the table and four points shy of league leaders Gor Mahia, have roped in former Sony Sugar hit man Clinton Omondi, Quintine Indeche and Masita Masuta.

The trio is joining from Kenya Defense Forces Recruits Training College following their September graduation and is expected to give Benjamin Nyangweso’s charge for the title a shot in the arm.

The players were already in Ulinzi Stars books but had to contend with the small matter of formalizing their entry into KDF by going through the mandatory military training.

Omondi played one match for the soldiers; a scoreless draw with Western Stima at Mumias Complex in October while Masuta banged seven goals for the club in 2018 while playing as a civilian in the military team. Indeche on the other hand has graduated from youth ranks of the team having won the KPL under 20 three years ago.

Ulinzi Stars face Posta Rangers in their first game of 2020 and the trio are in contention for starting places. Omondi and Masuta’s arrival increases competition in the soldiers’ forward line that is already teeming with bright talents.

“They trained with their mates yesterday (Sunday 29th) and they seem determined and have the right attitude. They bring on board the reinforcement we need as a team and I am happy to have them. We are still assessing the different departments ahead of the crucial second leg but I believe we will have the right players for the job,” Coach Benjamin Nyangweso said

Red hot Oscar Wamalwa and last season’s golden boot winner Enosh Ochieng as Ulinzi Stars’ recognized forwards but the new blood coming in will give the extra push and keep them sharp as they bid to win their first title since 2010.
