Uhuru warns against fake social media posts, urges verification
The Office of the 4th President has issued a strong advisory to Kenyans, cautioning against the spread of unauthorized and misleading content on social media that falsely attributes statements or positions to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In an official statement posted on X on January 29, 2026, the office expressed deep concern over the “deliberate circulation of false and misleading content on social media platforms.” It clarified that such posts are entirely unauthorised and do not in any way present the views or position of H.E Uhuru Kenyatta.
The statement emphasised the importance of relying solely on verified sources for information from the retired president and that of the Jubilee Party.
“We wish to remind the public that any official communication from the retired President or his office will only be disseminated through our established and verified channels: Office of the 4th President or the official Jubilee Party verified platforms,” it read.
Call for vigilance
The office underscored its dedication to accuracy and timeliness in public communications: “The office remains committed to ensuring that accurate information is shared promptly and promptly, so that the public is reliably informed.”

This warning comes amid repeated instances of misinformation targeting high-profile figures in Kenya, including false claims about Kenyatta’s health and fabricated videos or quotes misrepresenting his political stance.
Some of the misleading posts circulating online have claimed that the former president is preparing to hold political rallies in the Mt Kenya region to issue fresh political guidance.
Others have falsely attributed to him statements on current political developments and economic matters, creating the impression that he is actively engaging in ongoing national debates despite no such communication being issued through his official channels.
The statement directly appealed to citizens’ responsibility in combating disinformation.
“We urge all citizens to exercise vigilance, verify information before sharing, and avoid amplifying falsehoods that erode public trust,” it stated.
“The dignity of the Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya remains paramount.”

“We reaffirm our commitment to transparency, integrity, and respect in all our engagements.”
The intervention reflects ongoing efforts to safeguard credible information amid rising concerns over fake news, especially as political temperatures fluctuate ahead of future electoral cycles.
