Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
Eldoret City status conferment
President William Ruto is expected to award a charter which will elevate Eldoret town to a city status.
President Ruto is expected to award the charter to Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii.
The event was initially scheduled for August 8, 2024, but was moved to August 15, 2024, after consultation with the national government.
“All arrangements will go on as planned to ensure that we have the best celebrations to welcome the new city of Eldoret,” Governor Bii stated.

Ruto to meet athletes
President Ruto is expected to meet athletes at State House following their performance at the just concluded Paris Olympic Games.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen revealed plans by the Head of State to hosts the athletes while welcoming them at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Overall, Kenya topped the African continent and ranked 17th globally with 11 medals (four gold, two silver and five bronze) at this year’s Paris Olympic Games.
Beatrice Chebet bagged a double gold while Faith Kipyegon won both a gold medal and silver. Emmanuel Wanyonyi made it to the podium after scooping a gold medal in the 800M men’s race.
“Tomorrow, President William Samoei Ruto will host a grand reception at State House to honour their incredible achievements, with further recognition to follow,” Murkomen wrote on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

Power blackout
In a notice issued on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Kenya Power said that the planned outage is set to affect six counties across Kenya on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
The outage is planned for maintenance purposes, with different regions experiencing temporary power cuts throughout the day.
Kenya Power said counties affected by this blackout include; Kiambu, Nakuru, Uasin Gichu, Kakamega, Meru and Mombasa counties.
In Kiambu, the outage will affect Part of Bata, Marbrouke Tea Ltd, Limuru Tea, Kinyogori High Sch, St Francis of Assisi Limuru, Limco Shoe Co. Ltd, Roromo, St Thomas Sch Mbukinya, Kiambethu Farm and adjacent customers.
It will be unavailable from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
In Nakuru, the whole of Olrongai Center, Gitau Center, Olrongai Raymond, Komen area, Duka Moja, Redwing, Tulwobmoi, Agrico Potatoes, Marigo B and adjacent customers will be affected by the outage.
Kapseret Lemook, Mosombor School, Kapteldon, Nilkath Quarry, Shajnaand Quarry and adjacent customers will be affected by the planned power maintenance in Uasin Gishu.
In Kakamega, Rondo Htl, Chirovani Mkt, Ireho Market, Kisia Market and adjacent customers will experience the outage.
Pride Inn, Serena Htl, Pavilion, Shanzu Garden, Georgia Apartment, Kenya, White Sands, Bamuri Beach Htl and adjacent customers in Mombasa will be affected by the outage.
