Reactions to Ruto’s Cabinet dissolution
Several leaders are expected to continue airing their reactions to President William Ruto‘s move to dissolve his Cabinet.
The Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) is among the leaders that have so far reacted to Ruto’s decision to dissolve almost his entire cabinet.
In a letter dated Thursday, July 11, 2024, the trade union stated that the cabinet dissolution is a momentous step in rebuilding and strengthening the country amid crisis.
Commending Ruto for making a bold move, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli stated that his action is a modern approach to addressing the grievances and aspirations of the Kenyan people.
“Today’s decision by President William Ruto to dissolve the Cabinet marks a significant step towards this much-needed rebirth. The President has our full support as workers as he takes this momentous step to rebuild and strengthen our beloved country,” Atwoli stated.
Power Blackout
Two counties are set to be affected by a planned power outage scheduled for today, as per the latest announcement from Kenya Power.
According to the statement from Kenya Power, the interruption, intended for network maintenance, will disrupt multiple regions in the affected counties, and the temporary power cuts will be experienced concurrently throughout the day.
The two counties to be affected are Nairobi and Nakuru.
In Nairobi County, Evergreen area will experience a power blackout from 9am to 5pm with Baobab Street, Wood Vale Drive, Runda Meadows, Duom Palm Street, Garden Drive, Mugumo Drive, Daisy Drive, Flame Tree Rd, Part of Ruaka Rd, Acacia Drive, Bombax Cl and adjacent customers to be affected.
In Nakuru County, Elementaita, Mau Narok, Mwisho wa Lami, Kiptangwanyi, Kongasis, Oljorai, Jogoo, Likia, Fontana, Charvi, Mauche, Dibai, Kianjoya, Kalukiat, Sururu and adjacent customers will be affected from 9am to 5pm.
Medical interns Afya House protest
Medical interns have suspended planned demonstrations scheduled for Friday, July 12, 2024, at Afya House.
The medical interns have been camping and protesting at Afya House since Monday, expressing frustrations over years of waiting for their official posting after completing their studies.
In a statement, the medical interns said that the move to suspend their protests was out of goodwill.
They, however, said that failure by the government to address their issues over the weekend will result in the resumption of the protest on Monday, July 15, 2024.
