‘Too little, too late’, Muthama on Uhuru visit

Deputy President William Ruto’s pointman in Ukambani and former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama yesterday dismissed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit to the region tomorrow as “too little too late.”
Uhuru is expected to inspect ongoing construction of Konza Techno City and Thwake Multipurpose dam in Machakos and Makueni Counties, respectively.
Speaking to People Daily, Muthama who is the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairman described the visit as “inconsequential.”
Machakos County said the region had not benefited from Uhuru’s 10 years of leadership.
“There is no reason for the President to visit Ukambani; there is practically nothing to show as an achievement by his Government.
“Look at Wikithuki irrigation scheme in Mwingi that never took off, the crawling Konza City which is never funded to Thwake dam that has become a white elephant. There is nothing at all to show,” said Muthama.
The former senator who ditched who ditched Wiper Party’s Kalonzo Musyoka for Ruto charged that the region suffers from indecisive leadership to steer its economic transformation.
Taking a swipe at his former party boss, Muthama described Kalonzo as “a coward and a weakling.”
“We have had Kalonzo as our unsuccessful leader who cannot be trusted. He wants to own President Kenyatta’s tour of the region to redeem himself politically when we all know we have leaders like Governors Alfred Mutua who has been working closely with Uhuru and Charity Ngilu who has direct communication to both the President and former PM Raila Odinga,” said Muthama.
