Tokyo World Championships: Beatrice Chebet reveals team strategy to apply in Japan
By Kiplagat Sang, July 22, 2025Beatrice Chebet has revealed the strategy she and her teammates will apply during the Tokyo World Championships in Japan.
Chebet, who was already guaranteed a selection at 5000m thanks to her run – and world record – at the Prefontaine Classic earlier this season, finished third in the women’s 10,000m during trials held at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
The double Olympic champion revealed that the manner in which they ran on Tuesday is a reflection of how they intend to do it in Tokyo next month.
“Running alongside Janet and Agnes was amazing. We were running as a team to see how we are going to operate at the World Championships in Tokyo,” Chebet said, as quoted by World Athletics.
Meanwhile, African Games champion Janeth Chepng’etich took victory in 30:27.02 ahead of Agnes Jebet Ng’etich (30:27.38) and Chebet (30:27.52), all three producing the fastest ever times recorded at altitude.
Olympic bronze medallist Faith Cherotich continued her strong form in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, winning in 9:09.44. Doris Lemngole and Caren Chebet clocked 9:24.69 and 9:34.91 in second and third, respectively.
