Three seriously injured in Kisumu tanker accident

Three people were seriously injured on Wednesday night following a grisly accident at Ojola area in Kisumu West Sub-County along the Kisumu-Busia highway.
The accident occurred when the driver of a lorry ferrying petroleum lost control and rammed into a residential house at around 10pm leading to a mass destruction of property.
Confirming the incident, Kisumu West sub-county deputy police commander Bernard Kangara said the incident was reported at Maseno police station on Thursday morning at about 1:00 am that the driver of the lorry Benson Matoke, 43, sustained multiple fractures on the right leg and a cut on the head.
Kangara said the driver was rushed to Chulaimbo Sub-County hospital but was later transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) in critical condition.
The officer told People Daily that the said tank was heading to Kisumu from from Busia when the driver lost control and veered off the right side of the road, rolling multiple times.
“It landed on a trench approximately 200 metres from the main road and in the process it damaged two semi permanent houses belonging to Lukas Onyango,” he said.
Kangara said the damages were estimated at Sh400,000 and the two occupants who were inside the house also sustained multiple injuries.
The two victims, he said, were also rushed to Chulaimbo Hospital where they are being treated. Police visited the scene as efforts to tow the tank were in the process.
