Tension as Migori governor Obado ouster bid kicks off
The process to impeach the embattled Migori governor Okoth Obado kicked off yesterday amidst drama, political intrigues and counter accusations from the warring parties.
Security details of both Obado and Assembly speaker Boaz Okoth were withdrawn within a span of eight hours raising more tension in the county that has been in the spotlight for the past two weeks.
The Speaker who had chaired the morning session was forced to adjourn it prematurely after he claimed that his life was in danger following the withdrawal of his security on Tuesday night.
Okoth who recorded a statement at the Migori Police Station told People Daily; “I was informed that it was an order from above and no reason was given for the withdrawal.”
The speaker said that soon after the withdrawal of his security detail, unknown people came to his home.
“I am fearing for my life. I don’t know what interest some people have because I am just a speaker who is neutral and has no interest whatsoever,” he said.
Okoth had initially recorded statements in Kisumu last week after he claimed that unknown people came to his apartment at night on suspicion that he was having a meeting with a section of MCAs.
In less than eight hours, Obado also suffered the same fate after three of his security officers were withdrawn and ordered to report back to their respective stations.
Nyanza police boss Lydia Ligami said the duo did not follow the procedure in securing the VIP protection and called on them to re-apply afresh.
Ligami said the application for any VIP escort through the inspector general and after he gives an okay we get information and deploy.
For this case it was done unprocedurally”. But Obado condemned the move terming it as dictatorial.
“All these drama is meant to intimidate me for no reason. President Uhuru should intervene and crack the whip on security agencies in Migori who are serving political interests instead of discharging their duties,” Obado said.
