Taurus revolver seized, one nabbed in Migori robbery crackdown
Officers from Migori Police Station carried out an intelligence-led operation on May 15, 2026, targeting a network linked to violent robberies within Migori County and surrounding areas.
The operation was conducted along the Migori–Kawa main road near Migori Stadium in Nyasare Sub-Location, where officers established an ambush based on actionable information.
A grey Toyota Succeed was intercepted during the operation. Law enforcement officers searched the vehicle and recovered a Taurus revolver, a Brazilian-made firearm, concealed in a compartment near the gear lever.
The firearm was loaded with seven rounds and was reported to be functional. Additional items recovered included two .22mm ammunition rounds concealed in the right driver’s door handle and a dagger.

Recovery of firearms and arrest
The person of interest was taken into custody at Migori Police Station for processing ahead of court proceedings. The recovered firearm, ammunition, and the impounded vehicle were secured as exhibits for ongoing investigations. Authorities indicated that the materials will be subjected to forensic and ballistic analysis as part of the case preparation.

DCI officials stated that the operation forms part of continued efforts to address armed criminal activity in the region through intelligence-driven interventions. The seizure is also being assessed in relation to other reported robbery incidents involving firearms in Migori and neighboring areas.
Crime context
Investigators are reviewing possible connections between the recovered firearm and other reported cases involving armed robberies. Authorities have indicated that efforts are ongoing to trace the source of illegal firearms and establish any wider networks involved in their distribution and use.
The Directorate noted continued reliance on intelligence sharing and community reporting in addressing such incidents. “Actionable intelligence remains key to preempting threats and restoring public confidence,” a DCI statement noted.
The person of interest remains in custody pending further investigative and legal procedures.
