The government is negotiating with countries in the Middle East over conditions of Kenyans working there.

Labour Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui (pictured)yesterday downplayed calls by the Central Organisation of Trade Unions, Kenya Secretary General Francis Atwoli to suspend transportation of Kenyans to Middle East countries to “minimise suffering.”

Speaking during the Africa Regional Labour Administration Conference in Mombasa, Chelugui said the government is engaged in bilateral talks with Middle East countries where majority of Kenyans are working.

“As we pursue these challenges we have to be conscious and aware of the implications of impulsive or erratic decisions. If we make that decision, we will be seeing Kenyans sneak out illegally and that is not what we want to experience,” said Chelugui.
