Supply Mandera with relief food, leaders urge government
Leaders from Mandera county have urged the government to supply residents of the county with relief food and increase school feeding to counter the prevailing drought, which has placed many school going children at risk of dropping out due to hunger.
Mandera South MP Abdul Kore (pictured) urged the national government to come to the rescue of starving residents who have been hard hit by famine following two consecutive seasons of failed rains.
Kore said that supplying schools with relief food would ensure that all learners turn up for studies because even if they lack food in their homes they would be guaranteed of a meal in school.
“Our region has been hard hit by drought. Our children are not going to school. As we speak in my constituency alone, I have over 67 schools where children have been forced to stay at home because they have no food. We are pleading with the government to move with speed and address the situation,” he said.
