Stay in vacays in Lake Elementaita Mountain Lodge
Apart from relaxing and escaping the busyness of the city, there is one other thing that gets me to pack my stuff and get away: breathtaking views.
I’ve been to Lake Elementaita a couple of times, spent time around the lake, took a few photos of the flamingos, both small and big, but none of that beats being 1,400 metres above sea level, taking in the panorama from any angle you desire.
Views have a soothing effect on me; they make me forget stress and anxiety and rewire my brain, making me more creative. So, I spent some time at the Lake Elementaita Mountain Lodge, a property situated on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, and got to enjoy just what I needed.
It took us approximately three hours to get there, but being the rainy season, it started getting wet, and all I was praying about is that it doesn’t ruin my holiday and my photo sessions.
Thankfully, my prayers were answered, and I got to take a couple of photos while satiating my appetite with the view of the lake below.
I then had to get down to my room, and I loved the fact that it was private, still overlooking the lake, undistracted. I don’t get to enjoy rooms when I travel, so this time around, I wanted to stay in, absorbing it all and being mesmerised by the vistas.
Being a deluxe suite, I also enjoyed the cosy king-size bed, the freestanding raindrop shower and a bathtub. Such waterfall shower heads have grown in popularity in many establishments, I guess it’s because of the outdoor feel they offer.
It’s like being under a cascading waterfall, which for me is not only soothing but aesthetically pleasing too.
Seeing as the lake is a popular attraction for bird lovers, the rooms are named after the special birds found in the area such as the hornbill.
The deluxe suite can accommodate two guests. There are also the executive suites, which are slightly larger and have a seating area that can have a cot or a bed for children on request.
Should you have a larger family and are looking for a secluded area, the presidential suite is the most appropriate, as it has two bedrooms, a lounge and a kitchenette.
Another thing that impressed me is the fact that one of the cottages is specifically designed for those abled differently. I think this is thoughtful because such people shouldn’t fail to travel simply because there are no facilities that can accommodate their needs.
The lodge also features a gym, spa, infinity pool, and conference centres with views, expectedly. Should you desire to unwind with a cocktail, one can head over to the Flamingo Bar.
I also loved the fact that they have an organic garden, especially during this period when everyone is health-conscious. Such is the most nutritious, as they avoid chemicals.
I’ve noticed that many hotels have joined the movement of growing their own organic food, and also buying local produce, providing fresher as well as healthier food.
However, one thing that was torturous for me was walking all the way to the restaurant during meal times. I wished to have had a personal vehicle for that.
