State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena has released a statement detailing what President Uhuru Kenyatta deliberated on with ODM leader Raila Odinga and One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals at State House, Mombasa.

According to Kanze, the leaders discussed Covid-19 containment measures.

“His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta today at State House, Mombasa met a cross-section of Political Party Leaders to discuss the country’s Covid-19 containment measures in the wake of rising infection and mortality rates,” she said in a statement to the newsrooms.

Kanze added that the leaders agreed to take up the responsibility of urging Kenyans to abide by the Covid-19 preventive measures and interventions as well as uptake of vaccines.

“The Political Party leaders applauded Government efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country, and appealed to Kenyans to take personal responsibility so as to safeguard the health and wellbeing of all Kenyans,” Kanze added in the statement.

Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, Cabinet Secretaries Dr Fred Matiang’i (Interior) and Hon. Mutahi Kagwe (Health) were among the high profile government leaders present.

A week ago, the same leaders met in the same venue with Kanze stating that the previous meeting also deliberated on the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, media reports brought to the fore discussions on the 2022 succession politics where it is alleged that President Uhuru used the meeting to urge the OKA leaders to support the ODM leader for the presidency.

The president is said to have informed the leaders that Raila stood a good chance of beating Deputy President William Ruto in the event they support him.

OKA leaders who include Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, KANU’s Gideon Moi, ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula, reportedly declined.
