State administrators’ body to go professional

The Association of National Government Administrators of Kenya (ANGAK) will be transformed into a professional body of seasoned administrators to guide and support younger officers.
The association, whose members include Regional, County, and Deputy County Commissioners, as well as retired officers, is to transition from a welfare-based society into a platform that supports continuous professional development.
Internal Security Principal Secretary, Dr Raymond Omollo, who is also the patron of ANGAK has supported the innovative proposal to expand services to mentorship and consultancy.
“A culture of disorder is spreading across the country -in schools, offices, and beyond. It’s our responsibility to restore order, starting with ourselves,” he said.
Speaking during the association’s ninth AGM in Machakos, the PS also told the officers to initiate a broader programme of professional activities including in-depth discussions, establishing regular platforms for experience sharing such as quarterly seminars, developing an online knowledge portal, and publishing a journal that allows members to document and share practical case studies and innovative solutions.
The AGM brought together 339 administrators from across the country, including retired officers, under the banner of unity, shared welfare, and a collective voice for national government administrators.
The PS also highlighted the potential for increased membership, noting that ANGAK’s current 339 members represent a small fraction of the over 20,000 potential national government administrators countrywide.
The National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) are the face of government at the grassroots, the bridge between state policies and the people they serve.
They work in collaboration with the National Police Service and the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to combat crime, prevent conflicts, and respond to disasters.
