Police intercept car on highway and seize 75 bales of cannabis

Police have recovered 75 bales believed to be dried cannabis sativa following a successful operation in Ambalo, Sololo Sub-County, Marsabit County.
The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the operation in a statement on Saturday, June 14, 2025, indicating that two individuals were apprehended.
“In line with the National Police Service (NPS) commitment to combating drug trafficking, police officers today, 14 June 2025, conducted a successful intelligence-led operation in Ambalo, Sololo Sub-County, Marsabit County,” the NPS statement read in part.

Highway interception
According to the police service, they pursued the said vehicle from Uran towards the Marsabit-Moyale Highway before making a breakthrough in their operation.
“The security team pursued a vehicle suspected of transporting cannabis sativa from Uran towards the Marsabit-Moyale Highway.
The two persons of interest were taken into custody, awaiting their processing
“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to a drug-free society and urges the public to continue sharing information to support efforts in combating narcotics,” NPS appealed after the operation.

Another incident
The war on drug trafficking in the country has been picking up momentum in recent months, with police making arrests every day.
On Sunday, June 8, 2025, police officers from Bungoma West sub-county arrested one woman and seized 154 rolls of cannabis sativa.
“Today, 8 June 2025, National Police Service (NPS) officers from Bungoma West Sub-County, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, raided the home of one Beatrice Nekesa Wafula in Nabuloli Village and recovered 154 rolls of cannabis sativa,” the police statement read.
The National Police Service commended the vigilance of the local community, whose timely information led to the successful operation.
“We laud members of the public who continue to support our efforts by providing information that led to this successful arrest and recovery,” the police statement read.
