Stakeholders challenge to media over housing data
Stakeholders in the construction and housing industry have called on mainstream media to avail timely, relevant and accurate data to bridge the existing information gap on affordable housing solutions in the country.
The stakeholders say the move would effectively expand the knowledge, shift attitudes, and motivate the uptake of affordable housing solutions by the public.
During the Habitat for Humanity forum yesterday, various stakeholders voiced their concerns on the existing information gap on affordable housing solutions.
Regional director East Africa for Habitat for humanity Masua Mutua said collaboration by key media stakeholders will help in creation of content that covers the substation affordability and availability in housing projects.
“Media will help us disseminate knowledge on housing solutions in the market. They will also be able to influence perception and attitudes on housing solutions,” he said.
On her part, Florence Nyole urged the media to be on forefront telling Kenyans what the ongoing talks by the government about affordable housing are all about.
“ We only hear leaders talking about it. It is high time the media now took the conversation to another level. We need to understand what the housing agenda entails, the pros and cons,” said Nyole.
The concerns come even as President William Ruto has defended his Affordable Housing programme saying it is one of the interventions taken by the government to take on the unemployment problem.
“Today, because of the Housing Fund, we have 160,000 young people that are working in the housing programme across Kenya. These are people who were not working one and a half years ago. We have quantity surveyors, engineers; we have architects, masons, and plumbers. ,” Ruto told the audience.
