Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has urged leaders to continue performing their oversight role and not be cowed over unresolved deaths.

Sifuna who spoke during the requiem mass of Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve decried increased cases of intimidations, especially to leaders who have been firm on their stand.

“ We are mourning a man who had a stand. A leader who always questioned where wrong. His demise should not intimidate anyone, we need answers especially on the matters he questioned revolving Nairobi county government,’ he said.

Embakasi East MP Babu called for the arrest of all suspects who have been linked to Munuve’s death.

“We have heard names being mentioned, we want to see them arrested. If they are not we will tell the public who these people are,” he said.

Munuve made 37 statements during his tenure before his sudden death last month.

This was revealed by Nairobi City County Assembly Speaker Kennedy Ngondi who promised to ensure the programmes started by Munuve run smoothly as he would have wished.

Ngondi eulogised Munuve as an independent mind.

“Munuve is one of the MCAs who had a voice of reason. He has left a mark.”

He asked for 37 statements and I know what MCAs understand what it takes to ask such questions. Before the statements get to the assembly, they’re factual. He had all the qualities of a legislator in terms of oversight, legislation and representation,” Ngondi stated.

“He impacted people’s lives and we all have reasons to talk about Munuve. To the people of Kariobangi, we shall come in to ensure the programs laid by Munuve run smoothly and the administrative issues that he had. We will ensure the office remains vibrant and active,” he added.
