The first accused person in the murder case of the former Kabete Member of Parliament (MP) George Muchai, Eric Isabwa, has denied being Margaret Njeri Wachiuri’s husband.

Margaret Njeri Wachiuri was the sixth accused person in the murder of the former Kabete MP, but the High Court acquitted her of the charges at the end of 2025.

In his defence, Judge Kanyi Kimondo, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Isabwa, popularly known as ‘Chairman’, told the court that she did not know Njeri, who was alleged to be his wife.

Kuna fununu zimeenezwa hapa kotini kwamba yeye ni mke wako,” Isabwa’s lawyer asked him.

In his response, Isabwa said that “ndio zimeenezwa na ma officers.”

Mheshimiwa jambo la kwanza huyu Margaret simfahamu,” Isabwa added.

How he was informed about Njeri’s arrest

Further, he told the court that senior surgeon Singila informed the court that they arrested Njeri on February 13, 2015, from her house in Kinoo.

According to Isabwa, officer Singila said that Njeri had been hiding him in her house.

Notably, the court heard that when Officer Singila knocked at Njeri’s door, she, upon opening the door, met with the officers who asked her who Isabwa was to her.

Isabwa says, according to the evidence tendered by the officer, Njeri stammered before responding that he was her husband.

However, he avers that not even a marriage certificate has been availed in court as an exhibit to confirm their marriage status as claimed.

Mheshimiwa huyu Margaret hakuna statement ameandikisha kusema mimi ni bwana yake; hakuna cheti chochote cha marriage kimeletwa mbele ya hii koti ku confirm mimi ni bwanake ama yeye ni bibi yangu,” Isabwa submitted to the court.

In addition, he told the court that no neighbour, landlord or Nyumba Kumi officer from Kinoo has been brought in as a witness to confirm that he was indeed Njeri’s husband and whether he was indeed arrested in her house.

Mheshimiwa, hakuna landlord ama nyumba kumi officer ameletwa kotini kudhibitisha mimi ni bwanake ama nilikushikiwa kwa nyumba yake,” Isabwa added.

The court heard that PW 36, who is the investigating officer in the murder case, in his testimony tendered on December 4, 2023, said that when he arrested Njeri, she told him that was her house.

“Your honour, huyu ndo mchunguzi wa hii case, na kwa mashahidi wake 36 hajaleta landlord ku confirm. Baada ya Margret kushikwa, alishikwa na nani? alikua na mume? Hakuna mshahidi yeyote ameleta ku support Ushahidi wake, na huyo ndo mchunguzi tunategemea, mheshimiwa,” Isabwa told the court.
