Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has yet again weighed on the ongoing debate over Adani Group’s involvement in key infrastructure projects in the country.

Onyonka says deals between the national government and the Indian multinational conglomerate must be done within the law.

In a statement published on his X account on Sunday, October 13, 2024, Onyonka emphasised that the group’s deal should be in the interest of Kenya, adding that Kenyan citizens must get value for the money from the projects that would be handled by the Adani Group.

He went on to call for transparency, accountability and responsiveness on the Adani deals.

“We have constantly voiced and been very resolute that we want the Adani deal to be done within the law. That, Kenyans must get value for money from these project/s. Transparency, accountability and responsiveness are what has been our clarion call,” Onyonka said.

In a video dated September 24, 2024, the vocal senator said that they are not against the rehabilitation of the airport by the Adani but what they are fighting for is transparency of the deal.

He further stated that Kenyans are worried that one international company is set to handle projects from different public infrastructures.

“People think that we are fighting the airport, but what we are saying is that do it properly. We are having a country that is becoming dysfunctional. Everything is about a deal. How can Kenyans not be worried that one company is taking over your airport?” he said
