The government has maintained that schools will remain closed despite pressure from  education  stakeholders to have learning resume.

Education CS George Magoha is categorical that the ministry  will not gamble with the lives of children under the current circumstances where coronavirus cases have been increasing, but will only do so if the President directs him.

“Opening schools will be like exposing our children to death,” said Magoha.

The CS was speaking in Siaya when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Cornel Rasanga at his office.

Magoha had gone to inspect progress of the ongoing revival of Odera Akango Campus. 

The CS at the same time held a meeting with the committees spearheading the university project to expedite the process.

Magoha noted that the team working on the transmission between Maseno and Moi universities is beginning to slow their effort and raised fears that the pace would hamper their efforts to revive it.

“It seems that the committees are letting us down. They ought to have worked within the timeline because slowing down would ruin the project,” said Magoha. 

 He continued: “It is sad that our people are only right at the strategic levels while dead at operation and tactical levels and that is why we must come down here to make things happen.” 

The CS also urged the county government to avail documentations on the 7.5 acres  of Nyamninia land allocated to the Odera Akango campus to allow the  National Land Commission and the Lands ministry to aid  in processing its title deed.

“I want to assure governor  Rasanga that our bid to revive Odera Akang’o University is unstoppable.

I expect to be provided the documentations on the land  so that we can do the processes and have the land fenced,” he added. 

Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo said the revival of the campus would as well boost businesses that had collapsed as a result of the institution’s closure.

Governor Rasanga also welcomed the idea saying it will unlock the many stalemates that has hindered progress of the university.
