President William Ruto has entered health agreements with the US on his first day of his four-day state visit.

Ruto attended a forum themed ‘Transforming the Kenya-US Health Partnership’ at the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, moments after meeting Kenyans living in the US.

Signing of MoUs

During the forum, Ruto witnessed the signing of MoUs between CDC and Kenya Medical Research Institute, the Ministry of Health and the U.S President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.

The signed deals are aimed at developing a sustainability roadmap for Kenya’s HIV Programme and the joint proclamation for the operationalization of the Kenya National Public Health Institute.

The Kenya National Public Health Institute was first established in 2011 as unit within the department of preventive and promotive health in the ministry of health.

It was then established through a presidential executive order published as legal notice No. 14 in the Kenya Gazette of 21 January 2022.

The institute aims at strengthening and promoting public health issues by consolidating the management and coordination of key activities in prevention, and early detection of public health emergencies and events of concern.

Kenyans in diaspora

President Ruto is in the US for a four-day state visit.

Earlier on, the head of state met Kenyans living in the US at the Cobb Galleria Centre, Atlanta, Georgia.

He said Kenya is pursuing diaspora registration and mapping for skills and expertise which will ensure that the country secures placement of more Kenyans in productive employment abroad.

“The diaspora registration and mapping for skills and expertise that we are pursuing will ensure that we secure placement of more Kenyans in productive employment abroad. With increased earnings, the Diaspora can act as catalysts in our country’s economic development. Met Kenyans living in the United States of America at the Cobb Galleria Centre, Atlanta, Georgia,” Ruto said.
