‘Youths are drivers of our economic plan’ – Ruto
President William Ruto has reiterated that the youths are the economic pillars and drivers of Kenya Kwanza’s development plan.
Ruto’s effort to incorporate the youth into the governance system comes days after he named his second batch of Cabinet Secretary nominees. The president had been put under immense pressure by the youth, who, through demonstrations, demanded accountability, tax reduction, and a reduction in government expenditure.
Ruto, who is in the coastal region for a development tour, has again stressed the need to have the youth on board as he steers his government.
“The youth are the drivers of our economic plan. The technical skills and knowledge that we are imparting in them will empower them to drive that agenda,” Ruto said in a statement on X, posted on Saturday, July 27, 2024.
The President also visited the Kwale County Aggregation and Industrial Park, which he said will help unlock the area’s agricultural potential by adding value to cassava, tomatoes, cashew nuts, and other farm produce.
Apart from adding value to agricultural products, Ruto believes the Industrial Park will also help in the creation of jobs for the youth.
“This will boost our country’s foreign exchange earnings, create jobs for thousands of the youth, and increase our farmers’ income. Inspected the ongoing construction of the Mwananyamala Industrial Park in Lunga Lunga, Kwale County,” he said.
The Head of State also made a tour to the Kinango Technical and Vocational College in Kwale County and was accompanied by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani, Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi, and a host of Members of Parliament as well as Members of the County Assembly.
Eyes on Ruto’s company
As Ruto makes development tours to various parts of the country, his speeches as well as those who accompany him will attract considerable spotlight since he is forming a broad-based government that includes members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In his coastal tour, he has been accompanied – on different occasions – by Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro and Abdulswamad Nassir of Mombasa, both of whom are ODM stalwarts.
