Ruto sacked me in 2018 – CS Wamalwa fires back at DP
Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has hit back at Deputy President William Ruto who claimed on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, that he picked him from the streets and made him a minister.
Responding to Ruto’s demeaning remarks, Wamalwa said Ruto opposed his appointment as the Cabinet Secretary for Water and Irrigation.
“Ruto said that he made me a CS in Jubilee government, that’s not the case; it is President Uhuru Kenyatta who appointed me against Ruto’s wish,” Wamalwa said.
A visibly angry Wamalwa also revealed that the country’s second in command sacked him in 2018.
He also said he was out of office for several weeks because the country’s second in command did not want him to be part of President Kenyatta’s government.
‘Ruto fired me’
“I am the only CS who took oath of office alone, I’m asking Ruto why he attended the swearing-in ceremony of all the other cabinet secretaries and failed to attend my swearing-in; I was sworn in by Uhuru Kenyatta alone,” he said.
According to Wamalwa, his relationship with Ruto went south when he failed to ‘bow for him’ in 2018.
“I took a delegation of Western leaders to State House. That is when my war with Ruto started and he told me to tender my resignation letter, If it were not for Uhuru Kenyatta, I want to tell you there would have been no Luhya in Uhuru’s cabinet because Ruto sacked me in 2018,” the CS added.
“I have not said this for some time because I know how to persevere, Ruto is a man I respect but it is now the ideal time to say the truth we know about him.”
