Ruto reveals details of his meeting with visiting Guinea-Bissau’s president

President William Ruto has revealed the details of his meeting with Guinea-Bissau President Sissoco Embalo that was held at State House, Nairobi, on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

Taking to his official X account, the head of state pointed out that Kenya and Guinea-Bissau had committed to deepening ties.

This, President Ruto said, will be achieved by enhancing trade, investment, and peace and security efforts based on mutual respect and a shared vision for prosperity.

Ruto on AfCFTA

Ruto further noted that they had also agreed on leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the Tripartite Free Trade Agreement (COMESA, EAC, SADC) to boost trade relations.

“Kenya and Guinea-Bissau have committed to deepening ties by enhancing trade, investment, and peace and security efforts based on mutual respect and a shared vision for prosperity. Our two nations have also agreed on leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area and the Tripartite Free Trade Agreement (COMESA, EAC, SADC) to boost trade relations,” Ruto stated.

AU reforms

President Ruto went ahead to state that Kenya would work with Guinea-Bissau to advance reforms of the African Union (AU), promote peace, and drive economic growth.

“As the Champion of African Union Institutional Reforms, Kenya will work with Guinea-Bissau to advance reforms of the AU, promote peace, and drive economic growth,” Ruto added.

President Embaló is on a two-day State Visit to Kenya which he kicked off after completing a similar visit in Uganda.

He was welcomed in the country by the Cabinet Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs, Salim Mvurya, at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

“I had the honor of receiving and welcoming H.E. Umaro Sissoco Embaló, President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi this afternoon as the escort of honour. President Embalo’s two-day state visit to Kenya highlights the cordial and mutually beneficial bilateral relations between our nations,” Mvurya shared on his official social media accounts.
