Ruto meets with Nyanza grassroots women in Homa Bay
President William Ruto on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, met with grassroots women from Nyanza counties under the Sigand Nyinam Convention at the State Lodge in Homa Bay.
The meeting brought together women leaders from Siaya, Kisumu, Migori, and Homa Bay counties in an engagement aimed at advancing economic empowerment initiatives.
“Grassroots women from Siaya, Kisumu, Migori, and Homa Bay counties under the Sigand Nyinam Convention were hosted for a luncheon today by H.E. President William Ruto at State Lodge, Homa Bay,” Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga stated.
According to Wanga, who organised the convention, the gathering formed part of the pre-Devolution Conference 2025 activities.
She explained that the women’s summit under the convention was convened to clearly define the critical roles grassroots women leaders will play during the conference and in their respective communities thereafter.
Wanga noted that the convention remains committed to investing in the economic empowerment of women so that they can fully realise their potential and actively contribute to the country’s sustainable development.
She further pointed out that the summit also served as a platform for the women to reaffirm their resolve in combating the “Triple Threat”: new HIV infections, adolescent pregnancies, and sexual and gender-based violence.

“As #DevCon2025 begins today and continues throughout the week, the Sigand Nyinam Convention convened a women’s summit to declare the critical roles our grassroots women leaders will assume—not only at the conference but also as formidable advocates against the triple threat of new HIV infections, adolescent pregnancies, and sexual and gender-based violence,” she added,
The governor emphasised that through such engagements, grassroots women leaders are being positioned as key drivers of social and economic change in Nyanza and across the country.
Devolution Conference
This comes amid the 2025 Devolution Conference, which is currently ongoing in Homa Bay County from August 12 to 15, 2025. This will be a significant event, marking the first time Homa Bay will host the biannual summit, which is Kenya’s premier forum for discussing devolution.

The conference will be held at Tom Mboya University and will be organised by the Council of Governors (CoG) in collaboration with various state and non-state actors.
The theme will be “For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice” with the sub-theme “Re-engineering County Governments to Accelerate Development and Close the Socio-Economic Divide”.
