Ruto leads the nation in mourning Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve

President William Ruto on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, led the nation in mourning the death of Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve.

Ruto, in a statement shared via his official X account, termed Munuve as a bold, vocal and enterprising leader who served the people of Kariobangi North with focus and dedication.

“Mheshimiwa Joel Munuve was a bold, vocal and enterprising leader who served the people of Kariobangi North with focus and dedication,” Ruto stated.

The head of state went ahead to say that the late politician was hard-working and progressive and had fresh ideas that changed the lives of many people.

“He was hardworking, progressive and with fresh ideas that changed the lives of many people. We pray for the family, the people of Kariobangi North and the Nairobi County Assembly at this moment,” Ruto wrote on X.

Munuve died on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, while undergoing treatment at one of the private hospitals located along Kiambu Road.

Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Kennedy Ngondi in a press conference confirmed that Munuve was headed to the office in the CBD when he developed chest pains. His body has since been moved to Lee Funeral Home pending autopsy.

“The leadership of the County Assembly of Nairobi is deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing of one of our members, Joel Munuve, who is the elected member to date for the Kariobangi North ward. He suddenly collapsed and passed away earlier today. Munuve was a dedicated leader, a tireless servant of the people and a passionate voice in the assembly,” Ngondi said.

Munuve clinched the Kariobangi North ward seat as an independent candidate. Despite having Akamba roots, Munuve spoke fluent Luo and was a vocal panellist on Luo media stations.

MCAs mourn a colleague

Kileleshwa ward MCA Robert Alai took to his official social media accounts to mourn Munuve as his brother and friend.

“My brother and friend Hon. Joel Munuve (MCA Kariobangi North), rest in peace,” Alai stated.

Karen MCA Anthony Maragu also took to his official X account to mourn Munuve, terming him a selfless leader who served Kariobangi North with passion and humility.

Maragu went ahead to state that Munuve’s impact will live on in the hearts of many.

“Deeply saddened by the loss of my brother and colleague, Hon. Joel Munuve. A selfless leader who served Kariobangi North with passion and humility. His impact will live on in the hearts of many. May his soul find eternal peace,” Maragu wrote on X.

Sonko’s tributes

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has also expressed his condolences to the deceased’s family and the entire Nairobi County fraternity.

“Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve has passed on. My sincere condolences to his family, the entire Nairobi County assembly, and Nairobi County government fraternities. May the Almighty God give you strength, comfort, and hope during this difficult period,” Sonko stated.

Sifuna mourns Munuve

Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna has also shared his tributes, terming Munuve’s death as shocking.

“I have spoken with the Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly, who has confirmed the shocking news of the death of Hon. Joel Munuve Kimanzi. In these early hours, our prayers are with his family, that God may comfort them. To the people of Kariobangi North Ward and all his friends and colleagues, I say poleni sana. We shall stand together with you,” Sifuna stated.
