By , December 22, 2025

President William Ruto attended the annual Baringo Cultural Festival and Kimalel Goat Auction and used the occasion to underscore what he described as Kenya’s steady progress in socio-economic transformation across key sectors.

The event, held in Baringo County on Monday, December 22, 2025, brought together local communities, cultural leaders, and government officials to celebrate heritage while reflecting on national development priorities.

In a message shared on X, President Ruto reiterated his administration’s development agenda, saying, “Kenya is on an unstoppable journey of socio-economic transformation. We are firmly taking charge of our destiny, rebuilding our economy from the bottom up, empowering our people, and ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind.”

He said the country’s growth trajectory was anchored on inclusive policies aimed at uplifting households and strengthening grassroots economies.

Agriculture and food security focus

The President highlighted agriculture as a cornerstone of the government’s bottom-up economic model, noting renewed investments in the sector. “We have reinvigorated agriculture, securing Kenya’s place as a food-sufficient nation,” he said.

The Kimalel Goat Auction, a long-established initiative that supports pastoralist farmers through the sale of naturally salted goats, was cited as an example of community-driven economic empowerment.

The annual auction attracts buyers from across the region, providing farmers with a reliable market for their livestock. President Ruto said such platforms were critical in strengthening rural incomes and ensuring that agricultural producers benefit directly from their labour.

The cultural festival running alongside the auction showcased traditional music, dance, and crafts, reinforcing the link between culture, livelihoods, and local economies.

Healthcare, housing and infrastructure milestones

President Ruto also addressed reforms in the healthcare sector, stating, “Our healthcare system has been revamped to be more inclusive, more affordable, and accessible to every citizen, everywhere.”

He said ongoing changes were aimed at reducing the burden of medical costs on families while expanding access to services, particularly in underserved areas.

On housing and employment, the President noted the impact of the Affordable Housing Programme, saying, “The Affordable Housing Programme is reshaping our skylines and our future: creating over 500,000 jobs for our youth, restoring dignity to families, and renewing hope in communities across the country.”

He added that the initiative was contributing to both job creation and urban renewal.

Infrastructure development also featured prominently in his remarks. He pointed to progress on flagship projects, including Talanta Sports City Stadium, which he said was “now nearing completion and boldly reaffirming Kenya’s status as a global sporting powerhouse.”

He further announced advances on the Bomas International Convention Complex, stating, “We are also constructing the Bomas International Convention Complex – the largest of its kind in East and Central Africa – set for completion by April 2026 and designed to meet the evolving demands of modern international conferences.”

Concluding his message, President Ruto said: “We are delivering on our promises. We are moving Kenya decisively toward first-world status. This vision will be realised within our lifetime. It is inevitable. It is irreversible. It is unstoppable.”
