President William Ruto, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, conferred the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (CGH), the country’s highest national honour, on Prince Aga Khan V during his visit to Kenya.

The ceremony, held at the State House, recognised the prince’s outstanding service and contribution to the well-being of the Kenyan people over the years.

During the event, the prince moved to the conferment area where President Ruto officially presented the award. After receiving the honour, the Head of State warmly shook hands with His Highness Aga Khan V in a moment that symbolised Kenya’s deep appreciation of his efforts.

The prince then watched as President Ruto signed the conferment certificate before officially handing it over to him.

The prince went on to deliver his acceptance speech, noting that it was his first visit to East Africa since his succession. He emphasised that Kenya has always held a special place in his family’s history, highlighting that some of the earliest Aga Khan development projects initiated during the time of his grandfather were launched in the country and continue to operate to this day.

“This is my first time in East Africa. Since my succession, Kenya has always held a special place in the heart of my family. Some of the easiest Aga Khan development projects during the times of my grandfather were launched in this country, and many of them are still operating,” the prince stated.

“I can confirm my father spend his early childhood years in Nairobi. My father always cherished moments of this country and the wonderful people of this country.”
