Ruto, Gachagua mourn passing of gospel musician Betty Bayo
President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have expressed deep sorrow over the passing of celebrated gospel musician Betty Bayo.
On Monday, November 10, 2025, both leaders took to X to pay tribute to the late singer, acknowledging her remarkable talent, uplifting music, and lasting impact on the nation.
Ruto described Bayo as an extraordinary artist whose songs inspired millions across Kenya. He singled out her hit “11th Hour” as a powerful message encouraging believers to remain steadfast even in the face of hardship.
“For over 15 years, Betty lifted spirits through music that spoke of resilience, renewal and steadfast faith in the face of life’s challenges,” Ruto said.
He added that her message remained consistent throughout her career: never give up, no matter the hour, no matter the storm.
“Her voice may have fallen silent, but her ministry lives on in every heart she touched, every soul she uplifted, and every life she helped steady in difficult moments. Rest in Peace, Betty Bayo,” the President stated.

Gachagua hails Betty Bayo
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has also paid tribute, expressing deep sorrow over the passing of the celebrated gospel musician.
In a message on X, Gachagua described the news as truly heartbreaking and devastating for himself and the nation.
The DCP leader highlighted Bayo’s talent and her contribution to society, noting that her beautifully crafted lyrics and charitable work touched many lives.
“The news of Gospel Musician Betty Bayo’s passing on is truly heartbreaking and devastating to me and the whole nation,” he stated.
“Her remarkable talent and contribution through beutifully crafted lyrics and charity work touched many souls and transformed lives. I join our fellow countrymen and women, as well as the entire creative industry, in mourning the loss of a legend.”
Gachagua extended his condolences to Bayo’s family, praying for strength during the difficult time.
“My heart goes out to her family during this difficult time; please accept my deepest condolences. May the Almighty God grant you strength in this challenging moment, and may Betty Bayo’s soul rest in eternal peace.”
Bayo, whose full name was Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the private wing of Kenyatta National Hospital. A family representative speaking on behalf of her husband, Hiram Gitau, confirmed her death at 1:03 pm after a short illness. Her passing ended weeks of speculation about her health.
Bayo, known for her inspiring Kikuyu gospel songs, rose to fame through lyrics that spoke of endurance, hope, and faith in God’s timing. She maintained a consistent and devoted ministry, building a reputation as a voice of encouragement in the gospel industry.
