Ruto boosts Nakuru hawker’s dream of owning home with Ksh1M contribution
President William Ruto on Monday, February 13, 2023, inspected the Bondeni Affordable Housing Project in Nakuru county.
The units are being constructed under a public-private partnership agreement.
The beneficiaries of the project include a female hawker who went home smiling after the Head of State committed to paying Ksh1 million to help her achieve her dream of owning a home.
President Ruto lauded Shinde Shariff for her resolve to make monthly contributions to own the Ksh3.5 million unit.
Shariff, who hawks clothes in the city, said she has so far paid contributions for 11 months.
“I will pay Ksh1 million and continue paying the rest so that the amount can decrease to enable you to move into the house,” Ruto said at Nakuru State Lodge amid cheers from the crowd.
Sharrif encouraged residents to take advantage of the government project to own homes.
“I did not have the capacity but I rushed to purchase one of the houses. At the moment, I have paid for 11 months. I’m still remaining a few months before I own the house. I have convinced other people to enlist for the project so that they can also own a house,” she said.
“I hawk clothes here and there to earn a living so I want to implore you to also start,” she added.
President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration is seeking to close the housing gap in the country through the delivery of some 200, 000 housing units per year through a robust and active pipeline where 376 projects are lined up.
More than 9,000 units are currently under construction.
