Jalang’o further cemented his career when his diplomatic postings expanded in 1997 after he was appointed Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations agencies in Rome, while also serving as Ambassador to Italy, Greece, and Poland.

His final and most prominent diplomatic role was as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, an appointment he received in late 2000.

Jalang’o’s leadership was recognized by his peers, leading to his election as Vice-Chairman of the African Group of Ambassadors in 1999 and Chairman of the group in 2000.
