Ruto: 600,000 youth to be employed in housing programme by October

President William Ruto has promised to double the number of youth working in the Climate Worx and affordable housing programme in the next three months.
Speaking during a working tour of Soweto in Nairobi on Thursday, July 17, 2025, Ruto indicated that he would equally build a stadium and other amenities in the area.
“In September, I will be coming back to begin the construction of a stadium here in Jacaranda alongside a school, hospital and a social hall,” he said.
Climate Worx
“I understand that we still have a significant majority of the youth who are unemployed. Currently, I have at least 20,000 youth working in the Climate Worx initiative, but on Monday, July 21, 2025, I will double the number to 40,000,” he added.
“Currently, we have youth working in our affordable housing units and markets across the country who are at least 300,000. I have instructed the Cabinet Secretary and her Principal Secretary to ensure that in the next three months, we want to increase the number to 600,000,” Ruto said.

Climate WorX is a programme dedicated to environmental restoration and climate resilience.
Through river clean-ups, tree planting, and creation of green corridors, Climate WorX not only promotes ecological health but also generates green jobs, especially for youth and women.
The Nairobi River has long been a casualty of urban struggle, with unregulated developments, both formal and informal, encroaching on riparian land.
These developments have exacerbated flooding, caused loss of life and property, and led to the destruction of crucial river ecosystems and water catchment areas.
Affordable Housing
The Affordable Housing Programme is expected to absorb a significant number of the unemployed youth in the country.

Recent protests have revealed a worrying trend depicting huge populations of productive youths as unemployed despite being employable.
Pressed on the issue, Ruto defended himself, saying that the crisis did not start with his regime, and that he was being subjected to criticism despite being the only president to have a solid plan for solving unemployment.
He also noted that his administration has facilitated and secured employment for hundreds of thousands of Kenyans abroad.
