Robert Mbui lashes out at Kindiki ahead of the Mbeere North by-election
By Mabonga Makhanu, November 25, 2025Kathiani Member of Parliament Robert Mbui has lashed out at Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who came out accusing his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, of planning to orchestrate chaos during the by-elections in Mbeere North constituency
Mbui has dismissed the accusations as unfounded and suggested that if there were any plans to disrupt the elections, they would more likely originate from state actors.
Speaking on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, Mbui expressed concern over public statements made by national leaders like Kindiki when the nation is edging towards a by-election, arguing that such comments do not help the country.

He explained that remarks implying opposition involvement in planned violence may unintentionally undermine public confidence in the government and its institutions.
He warned that when a deputy president publicly claims that violence is being planned, it could be interpreted as the state being responsible for the potential unrest, especially since the office he holds has authority over investigative and security arms of government.
According to Mbui, it’s absurd for the deputy president to raise such an alarm when he has the powers to act and bring the perpetrators to book instead of joining the rest of the country in complaining.
“Now, when the deputy president in a rally goes and says that, you know that there are people who are planning; the opposition is planning to cause violence and to make sure that people do not vote. Then that means that he’s already, in fact, you know, casting aspersions and saying that he has no confidence in the government that he’s serving.”
He went ahead to urge the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take note of such remarks from high-profile figures within the government and take action.
“I’m of the opinion that comments like those also have to be dealt with by IEBC, because this is a national leader,” he added
IEBC observation
With campaigns having elapsed on Monday, November 24, 2025, IEBC had mapped Mbeere North and Kasipul constituencies as volatile areas during the byelections ahead of the November 27 mini-polls.

They urged the political players to exercise peace, since failure to do so will invoke paragraph 7 of Article 88 of the Elections Conduct and Peace Act.
