Review CBC to achieve better results, says Wetang’ula
By Anthony.Mwangi, June 13, 2023National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula wants the new curriculum of education reviewed to allow experts to incorporate concerns raised by stakeholders and parents.
Wetang’ula said the system is burdensome going by complaints from stakeholders and advised the government to consider total evaluation.
He said the review of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) will ensure everyone embraced it for effective implementation.
Education system
Wetang’ula noted that since the introduction of the CBC, the new education system has faced hitches in its full implementation as complaints about it were growing day by day.
“All over the country people are complaining over CBC. This is something that the government should not ignore for smooth implementation of the new system,” said Wetang’ula.
Speaking in Elgeyo Marakwet during a church service, Wetang’ula said education being a dynamic and continuous process, the government should always consider addressing pertinent issues coming from key stakeholders like pupils, parents and teachers for the betterment of the new system. “I was at Lwandeti Secondary school in Lugari constituency for a function and students in a poem they recited to me complained about CBC and I said this is an issue that we need to fix as a government,” Wetang’ula recalled.
He said complaints being raised by parents, teachers, pupils and other stakeholders should be addressed in cabinet meetings.
He added: “The new system is good and those who proposed it mean well in terms of shaping the destiny of our youths and for the progress of the country.”
The Speaker said the government should be sensitive to concerns being raised by Kenyans on the implementation of the system.
At the same time, the Speaker asked President William Ruto to ignore the “noise” made by the opposition over his leadership and focus on moving the country forward.
