Rains expected in most parts of the country as Kenya Met issues strong wind alert for 2 counties
Kenyans can expect a shift in weather conditions over the coming days, with rainfall forecast across large parts of the country, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department.
The weather agency says the rains will offer relief to several regions that have experienced dry or inconsistent conditions in recent weeks, even as it warns of strong winds in parts of northern Kenya.
In an update shared on X on Saturday, December 13, 2025, the Met Department said rainfall is expected over Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, North-Eastern and North-Western regions, the South-Eastern lowlands, as well as Central Kenya, including Nairobi.
The forecast suggests that the rains will be spread out across these areas, benefiting farmers, urban residents, and water catchment zones alike.

“Rainfall is expected over Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, North-Eastern, North-Western, South-Eastern Lowlands, and Central Kenya, including Nairobi. This will bring some relief to many areas,” the department said.
The anticipated rains come at a time when many households and farming communities are hoping for improved weather to support crop growth, replenish water sources, and reduce pressure caused by prolonged dry spells. In urban centres, the rains are also expected to cool temperatures that have remained relatively high.
However, the Met Department cautioned that the rainfall will be accompanied by strong winds in some parts of the country, particularly in the north. Residents of Marsabit and Turkana counties have been urged to take extra care, as the winds could pose risks to their livelihoods and safety.
“Heads up! Strong southeasterly winds, exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s), are expected over Marsabit and Turkana counties. Please take necessary precautions,” the department warned.

Such winds can affect small boats on lakes, damage temporary structures, and make travel difficult, especially in open and arid areas. Authorities often advise residents to secure roofs, avoid open waters during strong winds, and remain alert to changing conditions.
The Met Department encouraged Kenyans to stay informed and follow official updates as the weather situation evolves, noting that conditions may vary from one location to another.
