Raila says chopper attack was planned, points fingers at Mandago, Caleb Kositany
ODM leader Raila Odinga has condemned the attack on his chopper during his visit to Uasin Gichu county on Saturday, April 1 while attending the late Mzee Kibor’s funeral.
Raila described the attack as a ‘huge worry’ to Kenyans since it posed a threat to multipatyism, freedom of speech, and association.
In a statement posted on his social media accounts, the presidential hopeful pointed out that the attack staged by rogue youths was directed at him and is a dark reminder of the post-election violence experienced in the run-up of the 1992 elections and in the 2007-2008 polls.
“In the event that took place at Kabenes in Uasin Gishu, youth attacked my plane, destroying the air shield with rocks that were clearly aimed at me. On my way to the plane, they had pelted my vehicle with stones.
“The attack presents a very dark reminder of what this country has witnessed before particularly in the run-up to the 1992 elections and on the 2007-2008 polls,” he noted.
He further called upon leaders in the region to condemn the incident while pointing fingers at the county’s governor and MP Caleb Kositany of Soy.
“For today’s unfortunate events, I hold Uasin Gishu governor Mandagor and Soy MP Caleb Kositany responsible,” he stated.
Nevertheless, Raila is still hopeful that the country will enjoy a free and peaceful election come August.
