Raila Junior reveals his next move after Kalonzo endorses him to carry on his father’s legacy
The son of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Raila Odinga Junior, has welcomed his coronation by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as he revealed his next steps following the new assignment.
Speaking at Opoda Farm after being handed the instruments of power by Kalonzo on Thursday, November 6, 2025, Raila Junior was officially endorsed both as the heir to his father’s legacy and as a Kamba leader, as Kalonzo noted that the late Raila had a deep connection with the Kamba region, which had overwhelmingly supported him.

Raila Junior began by expressing his gratitude in accepting the honour. He acknowledged the significance of the moment, describing the day as one of the most colourful and saying he deeply appreciated the leadership role that had been bestowed upon him.
Welcoming the crown
Raila Junior, who was recently crowned as the family head after his father’s demise, stated that the ceremony, during which Kalonzo Musyoka positioned him as a link between the Luo nation and the Kamba community, was a responsibility he did not take lightly.

He added that in the coming days, after the mourning period, he would visit Kalonzo to seek further advice on what steps to take now that he has been entrusted with instruments of leadership.
“It’s a great honour for me, and I do not take it lightly. I want to say thank you so much for bestowing this upon me, and I’ll be coming to you later on to have further discussions on how I, Raila Junior, can be able to carry out my role as the leader bestowed by you, if that is correct,” Raila Junior stated.
These came after Kalonzo Musyoka decided to bless the son of his late political ally with what he termed as instruments of power during his visitation to the Opoda farm.
Before he began paying tribute to the late departed leader, Kalonzo Musyoka invited Raila Junior to the podium so that he could perform the exercise.
Instruments of power
Kalonzo first handed Junior a bow and arrows, which he said were meant to guard the territory left behind by his late father. After receiving them, Junior was shown how to shoot and asked to demonstrate, marking the beginning of his new symbolic role.

He was also given a small stool, which he was instructed to sit on while holding the bow and arrow, symbolising his duty to guard his father’s legacy as the eldest and only son. He was further given a shield, representing his role as a protector of his family and community.
Kalonzo then handed him a fly whisk, an item that was synonymous with his late father and was even buried with him.
According to Kalonzo, the instruments of power were to be used by Raila Junior to guard the entire community, extending from his father’s, his grandfather Jaramogi Oginga’s, the entire Luo nation, and Kenya at large.
“Hii utatumia kulinda jamii ya Raila, ya Jaramogi, ya Wajaluo na wa Kenya kwa ujumla,” Kalonzo declared.
