Raila Odinga Junior has announced plans to restore his late father’s iconic Hammer car and place it at the family homestead, Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, in Bondo, Siaya County.

The move aims to preserve a significant piece of Kenya’s political history and honour the late former Prime Minister.

The Hammer car, purchased by Raila Odinga in 2007, was widely used during his political campaigns. Raila was known for his taste for high-end vehicles.

The car was pictured on X, parked and covered, prompting Raila Junior to reply on Monday, December 8, 2025, that his intention is to restore it and take it to the museum at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi.

“My intention is to restore it and take it to the museum at Kango Ka Jaramogi,” he posted.

Raila Junior’s plan to restore the Hammer is part of a broader effort to memorialise his father’s political legacy. He intends to display the car at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, the Odinga family homestead, which has become a place of national reflection.

The site houses the graves of several generations of the Odinga family, including Raila Amolo Odinga, his father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Raila’s mother Mary Ajuma Odinga, and his son Fidel Castro Odinga.

Kang’o Ka Jaramogi is more than a family home. It hosts the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum and a small museum preserving artefacts from the family’s political life.

The site also contains traditional Luo houses, including those once occupied by Raila. The homestead carries deep historical and emotional significance, reflecting the struggles and contributions of the Odinga family to Kenya’s democracy.

Over the years, Kang’o ka Jaramogi has also served as the burial place for other family members, including Raila’s sister, Beryl Achieng’ Odinga, who was laid to rest in December 2025.
