Queen Elizabeth to be buried next to husband on Monday

Buckingham Palace announces that two minutes of silence will be observed across the United Kingdom at the end of Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral.

The funeral is to be held at Westminster Abbey on Monday, with some 2,000 guests attending, including visiting heads of state and other dignitaries. Officials say today that after the funeral, the late queen’s coffin will be transported through the historic heart of London on a horse-drawn gun carriage.

It will then be taken in a hearse to Windsor, where the queen will be interred alongside her late husband, Prince Philip, who died last year.

King Charles and his siblings will hold a vigil Friday at Westminster Hall, where the queen is lying in state until her funeral Monday.

The vigil will be held by Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Prince Andrew for 15 minutes, palace officials said Thursday.

They said the vigil would be held in addition to, but not in place of, an ongoing vigil mounted by the Household Division and Body Guards.

The late monarch will be buried in the King George VI memorial chapel in St. George’s Chapel, Windsor, on Monday in a private service.

The queen’s father, King George VI, her mother, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, and the ashes of her sister, Princess Margaret, are already buried there.
